Merry Christmas to everyone! Or just happy holidays! Our Christmas tree is up and the snakes helped us rig up those darn lights!
I hope everyone has finished their shopping on time!

It's that time of year again! Hibernation for all of the snakes that will be breeding. Only Ares will be hibernated though not in the fridge with the other snakes.
SUNY Cobleskill RPCU members drop their breeding snakes temperature (very slowly) down to 52 degree's F. in a fridge with a temperature reader rigged up with it. Don't worry it works. Snakes have been hibernated successfully without the fridge getting too cold. Ares will be staying in the room outside of the fridge because I (Terra) have been worried about his sneezing. He had gotten rid of his cold for about three months ago, however seems to have caught another cold. I believe this is due to his older age and the fact that the room temperature is slowly going down as well. Room temperature where the fridge is goes down between 65 and 68 degrees F. Other than that Ares is doing well. However we need to get a large proven breeding female for him and soon! The RPCU club cannot find a suitable snake to add to their collection yet so I may have to do some looking around. Casper the ghost corn will be breeding in Spring as well with her previous boyfriend Magmar who is the amelanistic male she bred with last year. Lets hope for something cool! They will not be hibernated because they have bred successfully without any cooling period. |
