Our other animals...
Our Retired Breeders
These animals are now pets who will stay with us until the end of their days. Some notable retirees include Ares Bacon a male normal corn snake and Casper our female ghost corn snake. Casper is a rescue snake received during the summer of 2013. It should be noted that her history before her previous owner is not well known and that she may be older than Ares and thus the oldest snake in our collection. We know of her history from the owners before us and can reliably say that she is Ares age as she was bought the same time, but we don't know about how long she was in the pet store which could have been up to a year.

Our Feeders and Cleaners
Right now we have a number of insects that make up our feeder and cleanup colonies. These include our Red Runners, dwarf tropical white isopods, native isopods, tropical white springtail, silver springtail, and mealworm colonies. We no longer keep Guyana spotted roaches, Powder Blue or orange Isopods, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, and rice flour beetle colonies.

Our Birds
We had some button quail that we were keeping and breeding. These small birds will be once in a great while food items for our corn snakes (like twice a year), and cute pets for us to keep. We may get these in again in the distant future. In the past we also had ring-necked pheasants and budgerigars (neither of which were fed to any reptiles) but we will not be keeping those species again.

Our Mammals
We only have one mammalian pet right now. We rescued a stray cat after it was dumped in a dollar store parking lot at the edge of the woods. He was already neutered, but had no collar or microchip. After getting rid of his fleas, loads of ticks, internal parasites, and getting him his shots he is now a much happier and healthier indoor cat. He has also gained quite a bit of weight since after we first found him looking like a skeleton. Due to his coloring, when we found him (the eve of the solar eclipse), and his warm loving personality we gave him the name of Sol.

Our Arachnids
As of right now we only have one spider, a Chilean Copper tarantula (Paraphya scrofa) and she is just a pet and display animal.

Pets that have passed on...
In the past we had a few birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians that were family pets and nothing else. Here are some photos of those who now lie resting in peace. |
